Manhole covers, also known as outside drain covers, act as inspection chambers and drain pipe covers in order to protect underground drainage systems. They are available in load-bearing classes to ensure they’ll perform under the strain of weight from cars, trucks and aeroplanes. An F900 class cast iron manhole cover weighs 145kg and is certified to hold up to 90 tonnes of weight. Meanwhile, galvanised steel manhole covers can be used in areas with slow traffic or pedestrian traffic, as this material is not suitable for use on highways and roads.
