Find out moreFrom Everbuild, this Black Jack Roofing Felt Adhesive is a black oxidised bitumen-based cold felt roofing adhesive that is cold applied. It is perfect for bonding roofing or glueing roofing felt to itself, concrete, asphalt, metal, wood and comparable surfaces. It also makes a cold gritting solution.
The recommended felt laying techniques should comply with BS 8217-1994. The most effective way of applying the Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive is by brush or mop. Leave it open for 15 to 30 minutes before placing the roofing felt into the wet adhesive film. Be careful while placing the felt and rub or roll each section to ensure maximum contact with the adhesive while excluding air. The felt should be weighted down until it is fully adhered to. Where possible, unroll the felt into the adhesive and roll it with a lighter roller (around 25kg).
When using lap cement, the laps at the edges should be at least 75mm wide, while the laps at roll ends should be 150mm. Ensure that you treat the final edges and laps generously on their underside with Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive and compact them well. If you're working on a timber roof structure, nail down the first felt layer to meet the standards of BS 8217-1994. You can also bond the second and third layers using Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive. If you're working on concrete or lightweight concrete screeds, you must prime porous surfaces to ensure successful adhesion to Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive. Use Black Jack Bitumen and Flashing Primer and make sure it's fully dried before applying the first layer of felt.
As a solution for cold gritting, Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive can be used on roofs with a slope of 10°. It is important to make sure that the surface is clean, free from dirt, dust, debris and dry. The felt adhesive can be applied to damp surfaces, but not to wet or waterlogged surfaces. It should be spread evenly directly from the container in areas of 20m² at a time., and the film should not be allowed to puddle or become too thin. Chippings should be applied immediately into the wet film, but take care not to over-chip. Ensure that the chippings cover the film from shoulder to shoulder. Excess chippings should be brushed from the completed surface after 72 hours. It is important not to leave the black film exposed.
